Amelia Urban, MA, ATR-BC, LPC is a graduate of Drexel's Hahnemann Creative Arts in Therapy program and has worked in a variety of settings including outpatient, residential and inpatient. After finishing her degree, she continued working with youth, ages 11-17, in a residential and shelter facility in Camden County, NJ, where she began the art therapy program during her internship. Amelia also worked at an outpatient clinic in Camden, NJ, serving the diverse needs of the community. Her clients ranged from children to older adults whose issues ranged from depression and anxiety to trauma and loss. She then began working with victims of domestic and/or sexual violence, both in the safe house and outpatient settings, providing individual and family therapy as well as facilitating children's groups.

Currently Amelia's focus is centered on working with children, ages 5 and up, whose primary areas of concern involve sexual and domestic violence, anxiety, depression, adjustment to divorce/split households and grief and loss. She finds the best method to help children is within the family setting. Sessions often begin with the parent and child, and then move to individual art therapy work with the child. Amelia strongly believes it is impossible to deliver successful individual child therapy without the parent's involvement. The sessions are tailored to the child and family's needs, providing an opportunity for expression and skill development.

Amelia has also received extensive trainings, including the New Jersey Child Sexual Abuse Training Institute's Child Sexual Abuse Case Consultation Project, Post-Traumatic Stress Management Training as well as Individual Child Art Therapy in a Family Therapy Context. She is also a part of Camden County's Crisis Response Team. She has facilitated workshops and discussions focusing on the use of art therapy with traumatized children. She also works with the Delaware Valley Art Therapy Association as the Membership Chair and is an active member in the American Art Therapy Association.
